It seems like nearly yesterday that I began my journey into crochet design in earnest. It's hard to believe that it was actually about 2 - 3 years ago! I remember how it all happened. I had created a handful of patterns before. Coats for my dogs, a small little heart appliqué, a couple of baby patterns, etc. They were small things really. And then one day I simply decided, quite out of the blue, that I wanted a sweater. But not just any sweater. Not one I could buy at the store, but something I made. Something I could be really proud of. Knit-like Cropped SweaterI literally knew nothing about crochet design, but I picked up a crochet hook and some yarn (specifically Lion Brand Jeans in colorway Stitch), and simply let the hook guide me. Of course, now I don't design on the fly. I plan it out, I do a gauge swatch, I crunch the sizing numbers, etc. But that first sweater was special because I quite simply "just made it".
And it turns out that I absolutely LOVED it! But I'll tell you a little secret. It didn't turn out the way I planned. I had designed it for myself, but it didn't actually fit me! It fit my extra-small daughter (yep, that's her in the photo above) and I am a size medium. At the time, I had no idea how to "size" a pattern or re-write a pattern to do it in multiple sizes. It was actually another year before I was able to do that and I am happy to say that the pattern has been size-inclusive ever since! This is a free on the blog pattern, you can get it by clicking on the button above. However, if you'd prefer the PDF you can purchase it individually or get it as part of Crochet Committed Membership via the buttons below.
