Two Basic Crochet Skills. One Beautiful Stitch.

Hello Reader,

Like most crochet beginners, I first learned the single crochet and then the double crochet.

As a self-taught crocheter trying to figure it all out on my own by consulting the great and all-knowing Google, I didn't even know there were more "basic" stitches out there for quite some time.

My third stitch was actually a stitch pattern made entirely of the only two stitches I knew at the time.

SEED STITCH

It was the crochet seed stitch and I learned it from a group of ladies in an online crochet community.

To this day I couldn't tell you which one it was.

I just remember following the seed stitch discussion and how it was an old stitch that many of these ladies had learned upwards of 50 years before!

And you know what?

To this day, the seed stitch has remained in my top 5 favorite crochet stitches!

Number one, it's super easy and quick to do. And secondly, it's absolutely gorgeous!

The simple combination of single crochet and double crochet stitches in this pattern creates an elegantly textured stitch that I find particularly stunning.

If you haven't learned this stitch pattern yet, you really must give it a try.

It's easy enough for beginners, but great for crocheters of all levels.

I've used it in so many patterns!

Oh, by the way, believe it or not, I learned only last year that the seed stitch actually has another name!

It is also known as the lemon peel stitch.

Funny how crochet stitch patterns can have multiple names!

Until next time... Happy Crocheting!
